Join Online

Sign up through the British Riding Clubs portal. It only takes a few minutes to complete your application and payment.

Get Confirmed

Once registered, you'll be added to the MDRC membership list and receive your BRC affiliation.

How Points Work

Accumulate points throughout the season to qualify for championship trophies

You receive 1 additional participation point just for competing, regardless of placement.

Qualification Rules

  • Compete in at least 3 shows in a class to qualify for the championship trophy
  • Points are awarded at outdoor summer shows only
  • Points are not awarded retroactively if you join mid-season
  • Standings remain undisclosed during the season

Competition Guidelines

General Rules

Important rules and guidelines for competing at MDRC events

Safety Requirements

  • Protective headgear with permanently fitted harness must be worn while mounted
  • Regulation BRC-approved whips for jumping competitions
  • No competitor permitted in a ring without a legible number

Dress Code

  • Light coloured jodhpurs
  • Riding/hacking jacket (fastened)
  • Stock or tie
  • Plain black or brown riding boots with proper heel (no yard boots)
  • Long hair secured back

Horse & Rider

  • Rider age as of 1st January; cannot change age sections during season
  • Stallions/colts must be bitted and handled by adults over 18; stallion discs required
  • Horses must not be left unattended when tied to vehicles
  • Maximum 3 jumping classes (or 6 rounds including jump-offs) recommended per day

Competition Rules

  • No spurs in absolute beginner, pre-novice, or junior novice classes
  • Spurs must not exceed 2cm, no rowel spurs allowed
  • Only leather or synthetic bridles allowed
  • The decision of the judge is final
  • BRC rules apply in showjumping; BHS rules apply in showing

It is the responsibility of the rider to ensure they are aware of the rules that may apply to any class they enter. The committee reserves the right to disqualify competitors for animal mistreatment, dangerous riding, or discourtesy toward officials.

Frequently Asked

Do I need to own a horse to join?

No! Many of our members ride loaned or shared horses. As long as you have access to a horse for competitions, you're welcome to join.

What level do I need to be to compete?

We welcome all levels! Our events cater to complete beginners through to experienced competitors. We're happy to help you find the right classes.

Can I try an event before joining?

Yes! Non-members are welcome at our events (at a slightly higher entry fee). It's a great way to see if MDRC is right for you.

When does membership run?

Membership is £30 per year and runs annually. Contact us for the current membership year dates and any pro-rata options for joining mid-year.
